ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This schooner was constructed in 1843 in Black River, Ohio. She mainly carried lumber between Buffalo and Detroit. In October 1858, the schooner Home collided with the schooner William Fiske near Manitou Islands, destroying the masts of the Home and sinking her. The William Fiske was able to rescue the crew of the Home, resulting in no loss of life. The collision took place in the early morning, between three and four a.m. The Home is resting upright at the bottom of Lake Michigan with the hull largely intact, excepting collision damage to the starboard bow and the foremast which had broken off and was pulled to the surface by commercial fishing nets. The foremast is now on display at the Rogers Street Fishing Village in Two Rivers, WI. For more information visit the Wisconsin Shipwrecks website.
